A bit late on this blog I'm afraid but Round 2 of the UK Gravity Enduro sponsored by 661 took place the other weekend up in a midge-filled Kielder Forest. The tracks were rad, the weather on Sunday was awesome (Saturday wasn't quite so good...) and my new 2011 Giant Reign X0 was riding like a dream!
Rob Scullion from Continental Tyres was on hand at the weekend and hooked me up with a pair of brand-spank-me-new Continental Rubber Queens in the new Black Chilli Tubeless flavour. These completely transformed the bike as I was running the stock Kenda Nevegals as standard, I found I could push the bike harder in corners as there was much more grip on hand, no where near as 'drifty' as the Nevegals. Not only that but due to the tread design they seemed to roll much faster - handy on Stage 2 which was 5 minutes of flat-out pedalling!
Stage 4 was my favourite stage of the race, it was the possibly the most downhill orientated stage and I loved it! The final race times seemed to back that up too - I was pretty stoked with the 5th fastest time in Seniors on that stage!
Overall I placed 13th with a cumulative time of 16mins 48, I was pretty pleased with that all things considered, just got to aim for that top 10 position at the next race at Innerleithen! It should be a good 'un, plenty of downhill and less pedalling by the looks of things!
If you do fancy getting yourself involved then check out http://www.ukgravityenduro.co.uk/public/default.aspx for more info and again a massive thanks to Rob @ Conti tyres for sorting me out with some fresh rubber!
