A great weekend for me just gone.
On Saturday I headed over to the Lakes for the last of the Lakeland Classic fell races - the Langdale Horseshoe. This one is a real classic, a beautiful 14 miles in the central fells. The weather was good a bit claggy up top but this made for real atmospheric conditions and great views (not that I got a chance to enjoy them very much - too busy looking at where my feet are going! I did look up at and marvel once or twice however).
The race winners were Rob Jebb and Ambleside's Jane Ready.
The ground is very soggy at the moment due to all the rain of the summer. Alot of rocky ground that would normally be dryish and fairly straightforward to run on is very slippy. The OMM at the end of the month is going to be all the more interesting for this!
On Sunday I had a blast in the park - a cyclo-cross race in Temple Newsam on the edge of Leeds. Cyclo-cross is fast and furious. Races last about 40 minutes and give a great workout. The course was a really good one, lots of woodland singletrack with a few sharp steep ups and downs. I enjoyed the race and I'll do some more over the winter. There are loads of cross races all over the country. The season last from October through til January and there is a calendar here
Apart from National championship races you can race on a mountain bike (and plenty of people do) so if you don't own a cross bike but fancy a blast have a go!
