Vango Scottish Ultra

Hosted on the remote Islands on the West Coast of Scotland the Vango Scottish Ultra is widely recognised as the toughest and most demanding multi-day event on offer in the UK.  The event sees athletes cover 140 miles over 5 days taking in high mountains, raised beaches, isolated tracks/trails and strength sapping coastal terrain in one of the more remote and certainly most extreme environments that Britain has to offer.

Vango Scottish Ultra 2010 will take place on 1st to 7th May 2010

The Vango Scottish Ultra will feature some of the most adventurous and remote terrain the UK has to offer. Racing between the whisky distilleries of Islay and the Gulf of Corryvreckan whirlpool to the north of Jura participants will take in mountain and hillside, rocky shores and sandy coves, bracken covered gorges, rivers and raised beaches created during the last ice age and much much more.

During the early stages of the event the views reach to Antrim, Donegal and the Mull of Kintyre with the splendid skyline of the Paps of Jura coming into sight late on the first day. The bulk of the race will be on the Isle of Jura from where competitors will be spoilt for scenery with stunning seaward views of Colonsay, Mull and rugged Scarba - and of course a close up view of the beauty of Jura itself.

The West coast of Jura is uninhabited by man and consequently extremely rich in wildlife. Herds of deer and goats roam freely and otters and mountain hares are regularly seen around the coastline and hillside. Overhead, golden eagles are frequently seen soaring in hunt of prey while out to sea whales of all descriptions and basking sharks can be seen on a clear, calm day.

Although the exact route of the event will not be revealed until nearer the start of the race you can be assured of one thing:
