Friday 16th March 2012James Pearson has succeeded in climbing Esclatamasters, Perles, Spain, for his first 9a.
After a few days working the route and some initial redpoint attempts, James was forced to take a break after ripping a hole in a finger when falling from high on the route. After 4 full rest days, waiting for new skin and visualising the route, he returned to Perles psyched as ever, but with a very fragile finger. However, nothing works quite like frustration and on his second go of the day, after a massive fight, shaking legs, and a pure shout of joy; he made it to the belay for his first 9a. 6 days, 7th redpoint try.
"Esclatamasters is an amazingly varied route in the little forgotten cliff of Perles, (Spain). It's one of the most visually beautiful sport routes I have climbed, and I am so happy to have made it, my very first 9."
