Friday 8th March 2013The BMC have posted a video of Mark Roberts, who while winter soloing Parsley Fern Lefthand Gully, grade II, found a sizeable piece of ice come falling towards his head which caused him to lose his footing and begin sliding down the gully.
Mark captured the events on his headcam and the situation quickly escalates from being in a 'secure' position, to falling down it uncontrolled without axes to help an arrest.
Elfyn Jones, BMC & Conservation Officer for Wales and member of the Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team, commented: "I think the key message here is that accidents do happen, but that Mark was well equipped, wearing a helmet, and that probably saved his life."
