Tuesday 22nd September 2009The Edinburgh International Climbing Arena saw a collection of Europe's top youth climbers assemble over the weekend. The youth series is divided in to three categories, Youth B, Youth A and Junior, for each of these there are male and female rounds, making a total of six seperate competitions. Youth B competitors are aged between 14-15 years, Youth A competitors 16-17 years and Junior are aged between 18-19 years old (IFSC Rules 9.2.1).

Magdalena Röck of Austria focussed as she climbs into the roof section in the Female Youth B finals, going on to take first place. Second position was split with Luisa Deubzer (GER) and Lilli Färber (GER) both obtaining 19- points. They had both managed a top in qualifications so there was nothing to split them.

Sebastien Halenke (GER) managed the only top out in the Male Youth B finals taking first position. Second and third were divided between a minus point. Domen Skofic (SLO) managed 36 points, whilst Adrien Tribout (FRA) finished third with 36- points. The difference between them being that a - point is given for a hold which is 'touched,' a point with no suffix means a hold that is 'held,' whilst + is given to a hold which is held and the climber has moved through.

Nat Berry (GBR) in the Female Youth A finals. Nat missed out on a joint 3rd postition by the narrowest of margins, matching Christina Stutz (AUT)in points in the final and first qualification, however Stutz gained 1.5+ more points in the second qualifer meaning she sealed herself 3rd spot.
Alexander Megos (GER) cutting loose as he almost manages a top out in the Male Youth A finals. Jure Raztresen who took second position, was only .5+ of a point behind Megos in the final.
Johnny Stocking tackling the uncompromising competition route in the Male Youth A finals. The only GBR male competitor in the final, Johnny finished a highly credible 5th place.
Climbing through the upper sections of the competition wall in the Female Junior final, Charlotte Durif (FRA) managed a staggering 39+ points, meaning she was clear of second spot by 16 points. Charlotte has so far taken first place in every Youth competition this season.

With a strapped-up, damaged knee, gained in qualifications on Saturday, Mario Lechner (AUT) storms to first position in the Male Junior final. However the battle for first place was tight , as only one point split the difference between 1st and 3rd.
