Friday 19th August 2011This line, essentially a harder finish to The Walking Mussel (8b+) was bolted back in May and has seen quite a lot of attention since then. Pete Robins was making good progress and recently the pair have been taking turns on red point and belay duties. There's nothing like a bit of friendly competition. Neil has been getting very close for a long time and finally clipped the chains on Tuesday 9th. This is a great effort from one of Britains darkest darkhorses.
I see from the photos (http://dmmclimbing.com/news/2011/08/pen-trwyn-f8c-project-falls-to-dyer/) Neil actually owns a pair of shoes now, rather than the mis-matched and holey set of "shoes" he seems to have been climbing in for the last decade! Maybe he will realise his full potential now he actually has rubber between his big toes and the rock!
The route hasn't been named yet but the grade is thought to be about 8c+ and its one of the best routes at the crag. Well done Neil!
