The 2011 Original Mountain Marathon is filling up rapidly, but there are still some places left in all categories. The 2011 event is being held in the hills between Loch Tay and Loch Earn west of Perth.
With 17 previous OMM's behind him and having been a key instructor at this year's Plas -y-Brenin OMM Training Weekend Tim Higginbottom said: ‘This year's OMM looks like it's going to be the usual hard fought battle attracting the best teams from across the country and beyond. The area is a mouth-watering prospect for navigators - intricate contour detail coupled with tough terrain and not a road in sight, it's going to be tough if the cloud's down. The OMM is never an easy race to win and Chris and I are as hungry as ever to get our first win in this race - it's been too elusive so far and we plan to put this right this year - but so are all the others! One thing's for sure it's going to be long, hard and hopefully enjoyable, but maybe only after we've finished!'

Linear Courses B C & D
Normally in planning the Linear Course our planning team plans for 60% of the distance to be covered on Day 1. With having to bus competitors to the start, start times are later then normal, in order to ensure that all teams can complete before dark only 50% of the distance will be covered on Day 1. This of course means that Day 2 will be longer!
Due to the remoteness of the Saturday overnight campsite the results on Saturday will not be published on our web site until late Saturday evening. On Sunday the results will be updated on a regular basis throughout the day.
Chasing Starts on Sunday Morning.
There will be a chasing start on Sunday morning for both Female and Mixed Teams for the first hour. This will work in the same way as the normal chasing start i.e. the fastest Female/Mixed team on Day 1 will go of at 07.00 hrs In the case of the Score Class it will be the top 5 teams with the most points who will be set of at randomly in the first hour. Please ensure to check if you are in the chasing start at the overnight campsite.
Day 2 Finish
After finishing at the end of Day 2 in Comrie and after you have been refreshed you will be required to walk 600 metres to catch buses back to the Camp. Details of where the bus stop is will be marked on your map. This will mean you leaving the finish field through the small gate by the side of the gate you have just finished through and following the same route that you have just finished on for the first 100 metres. We will tape off a path but please give priority to teams who are finishing. At the peak times there may be queues for the buses and we recommend for those who feel able that they walk back to the Camp along the Main Road. There is a path marked on the map following the river but we have been advised that this is a delicate state and anyone using it MUST follow the marked route and not venture onto any of the fields.
Fuel Supplies: Optimus Gas which uses a 50% butane mix and is much more efficient than other gases using a 50% propane mix, will be available at the planetFear shop.
Meths will also be available from the shop.
