Long standing adventure racer and mountain athlete Paul Vousden has devised a new low cost but high performing map holder designed to hold a map within easy sight whilst riding a bike. Suited prefectly for multi sport and adventure races, mountain bike enduros and cycle touring.

Mapdec is sturdy, reliable and most importantly low cost compared to pretty much every other map holder on the market, many of which have to be imported in to the UK from overseas manufacturers. As far as is possible mapdec has been sourced and manufactured in the UK.

We talked to Paul about the new map holder and he said. 'mapdec came about while I was learning some new design skills. As an adventure racer I had always been fascinated by the art of navigating, and by the collection of homemade designs of mountain bike map holders used in events. The project took on a life of its own, and now we have a real product.

The aim was to build 3 key features into the design whilst making it durable and keep the price more accessible.

Firstly mapdec allows the map to rotate freely, yet stay in place.

Secondly it elevates the map closer to the eye line and off the bars for a much better view of the map.

Thirdly mapdec also uses just one mount point, making it possible to easily mount lights and other accessories at the same time.

What is unique about mapdec is that we do all this whilst keeping the product at 200g and just £38. We have shred weight by using an I-Beam construction to maintain rigidity. Our mount is 20mm wide making it kinder on carbon handlebars, and it eliminates any wobble. With a mapdec holder your map is always in sight so you can navigate and ride.'

mapdec is available from the planetFear online shop>>>
