Sheffield hero Steve Peat has thrown his weight behind an innovative scheme to bring mountain biking to the very heart of Sheffield. Parkwood Springs is an area of open land in the midst of Sheffield which is already home to a ski village. If the current plans come to fruition, a mini trail-centre will bloom within a stone's throw of the city centre. The intention is that the trails will be accessible to all, from the raw novice through to the committed gravity fan, with technical trail features such as table-tops, doubles, berms and drop offs. Funding from Sport England's Community Investment Fund has been matched by the European Union. The scheme is being led by John Dallow of Sheffield City Council and he told planetFear "We're getting down to the final planning stages, working out how to create trails that will cater for a wide range of abilities. With all the funding now in place, we're hoping to start building in October. Steve's still heavily involved and we're really excited about the project."
