Friday 26th June 2009On the 18th and 19th June the UCI (Union Cycliste International) Management Committee met in Lausanne Switzerland, to approve the 2010 World Cup calendar.
The UCI was founded in 1900 and is the not-for-profit organisation that seeks to develop and promote all aspects of cycling on a global level.
It has been announced that Britain will host two rounds of the World Cup, with Dalby Forest in North Yorkshire to set the opening of the season by holding the first of the Cross Country races on the 24-25 April. Fort William will once again see the Downhill and 4-Cross events over the 5-6th June.
In a shock move, after only one year in the programme, the UCI has dropped South Africa from the calendar, which it reports is due to Nissan withdrawing sponsorship from the series. In a statement Nissan gave its reason as being due to the 'current global economic situation.' Australia has also been dropped from the 2010 line-up, being replaced by an extra event to happen at Windham in the USA.
