adidas Terrex Results

Report by Dave MacFarlane
Wednesday 1st September 2010

The epic adidas Terrex took place over four days from the 27th-30th August, the race - which was the UK round of the Adventure Racing World Series - took in approximately 400km of Lake District terrain and saw 32 teams of four take on the gruelling challenge of completing the course.

The first team to come over the line having cleared the course was team adidas Terrex, a remarkable result, they finished with a final time of 71 hours, 31 minutes and 32 seconds.

planetFear entered both our teams in to the race, Team planetFear.com comprising Sally Ozanne, Ant Emmet, Tim Higginbottom and Chris Near and our second team who have become known as Team planetFear B (although they were our first sponsoered team) comprised Emily Brooks, Jake Morgan, Ant Cooper and Matt Martindale.

Team planetFear B finished a hugely respectful 12th place with a time of 115 hours 33 minutes and 40 seconds (teams who did not clear the course accrued time penalties, hence the final results) whilst Team planetFear.com although over 45 minutes late in to the finish, managed to clear all but the last two checkpoints on the course. Their missing these last two checkpoints due to running out of time, meant they suffered a two hour penalty, however despite this they still managed to take 3rd position in the race overall, with a finishing time of 79 hours 31 minutes and 52 seconds.

We are immensely proud of both our teams, who put in some amazing effort to finish the race in fine form, but special note needs to go to Sally Ozanne. Team planetFear.com suffered the loss of a crucial team-mate three weeks before the race, finding their replacement in Sally. Relatively inexperienced at races of this calibre, Sally had two and half weeks to prepare for this race. She pulled out all the stops and dug deep, 4 days of racing saw them take only 2 hours sleep and seeing her step over the finish line was a moment we are all extremely proud of. Thank you Sally your achievement over the weekend was inspiring.

The full report from the adidas Terrex will follow shortly, in the interim you can check out the planetFear Facebook page for video snippets from the race.
