The Phantom is not quite the world’s lightest quickdraw, but it is probably the most usable and functional of the super-lightweight quickdraws currently available. The hot forging process that DMM use to manufacture this and other lightweight climbing hardware enables a significant weight saving to be made without any loss in strength, and this has allowed DMM to keep a 9KN open gate strength on the Phantom: an impressive figure for a karabiner that weighs only 26 grams.

The simple ergonomics of the Phantom means clipping is straightforward. I have also been surprised to discover that these draws will stand up to intense sport climbing use as well as trad and alpine climbing, for which they are primarily aimed. In summary, if you’re looking for some super-light quickdraws that are also durable enough to use for regular cragging and sport climbing, these are among the best products currently on the market.
