Turbo Express Ice Screw

Black Diamond’s latest ice screw is hard to beat. It is extremely sharp, so bites into the ice very easily, and it’s turbo winder makes it speedy to place, making it a fantastic screw for steep ice climbing. The colour coded winder handles makes it quick to identify the required length from your rack.

The Turbo Express comes in 5 different lengths (100mm to 122mm (from 125g to 190g) offering a wide range of placements, including very thin ice. I tested the 13cm & 19cm models.

The winder handle was slightly tricky to retract and use whilst wearing mittens, but it was a great screw to place one handed.

At £39.99 they’re not the cheapest ice screw on the market, but you get what you pay for.
