Monday 19th July 2010Lots of people think it's too hot for climbing in Sardinia in summer. But, if you know where to go, you can combine climbing in the shade high-up with going to the beach...
By now many people have been to Cala Gonone to climb, and it's certainly true that it can be too hot here to climb in summer. But they don't realise that Sardinia is much bigger than many other Mediterranean islands, certainly much bigger than island climbing destinations such as Mallorca or Kalymnos, and even bigger and with higher mountains than Wales. As Chris Gore declared in this interview: "I was also surprised how good the climbing is in the summer as there are areas above 1000m and in the shade."
Most of the best summer climbing is in Ogliastra, where we run The Lemon House. There's lots of new development, for instance Su Telargiu Oro and here are Peter and Chris climbing here in late July
or at the Cave of Dream at Ulassai.
