Time to take a break

Returning to Rocklands has been amazing. It is such a change from London and it wasn't until we arrived that we remembered all the things we love about this place. This time of the year the area surrounding Clawilliam is a great place to be, there are so many climbers from all over the world all in this one place with a common goal.

We have been back 7 weeks now and the season is in full swing. A lot of the old faces have returned and its been great to catch up with them. It has also been a great opportunity to meet new people and learn from the way that different groups approach climbing. It can be all to easy to become obsessed with sending everything rather than taking a step back and enjoying climbing for what it is. 'Its such a privilege to be able to spend all day in the mountains and be so satisfied by what nature has to offer.

Last weekend was the venison Buffet, which is an all you can eat buffet of different game meat including Kudo, Gemsbok and Springbok. It was held at the local restaurant (Olifantshuis) and the majority of the reservations were taken by climbers. It was a great night and as well as an opportunity to sample different meats it also gave us a chance to see who the biggest meat eaters were. The German group won this easily with one member even requesting a larger plate. As everyone finished their meals a hardcore led by Justin Hawkins hit the bar to continue the party which included a display of Justin's now infamous dance the 'Mangina', which I will leave to your imagination.

We are now on our way to Capetown for the weekend to give our bodies a break from climbing, it will be a great opportunity to reflect on the past few weeks and look forward to those ahead, here are a few photos of some of the problems we have been lucky enough to climb on over the past few weeks.
